Mi trabajo se ha concentrado en el uso de un recurso metapictórico.
En lugar de pintar, coso, y exploro las cualidades del hilo, intentando recrear gestos que van desde la saturación de la materia hasta la síntesis de la línea, y desde la expresividad de la mancha hasta la definición de una imagen, cada vez más indefinida y evocadora.
La construcción de mi obra se articula en la inversión de un material (el hilo) sobre un paño de tela, y el tiempo dedicado a coserla. Esto se hace visible en la superposición de tramas, que en suma van generando un espesor (cuerpo) y una sensación de volumen, dominado por el tratamiento del color y las mezclas ópticas, a las que recurro con el afán de crear imágenes sugerentes, que apelen a lo efímero y leve.
El trabajo se aventura entre el acercamiento y el distanciamiento a la pintura. Acercamiento por la intención de simularla y distanciamiento por la voluntad de reemplazarla.
I am interested in the connection between process and material, and the way this relates to image and form in space. Using elements of nature - skin, hair, plants and animals- is the initial inspiration in my work. How I transform the underlying material with thread, is where the tension in my work is born.
The handmade and delicate quality of thread, is what attracts me to this material. By exploring these qualities I have found a médium that allows me to find new ways of painting and drawing without relying on those traditions. When sewing, I look to transform the material intosomething new and unique. I try to create gestures that go from the synthesis of the line to the saturation of the matter. I consider the expressiveness of the mark and definition of the image, to make the work more evocative.
The building of my work is articulated through the investment of thread on a piece of fabric, and the time dedicated to sewing it.This is made visible by the superimposition of layered lines that generate thickness and a sensation of volume - acknowledging the structure of the underlying fabric through a conscious restructuring of it, through sewing.
